Analyzing Bulldozer: Why AMD's chip is so disappointing

AMD's Bulldozer is finally here, after years of development --
and its performance is significantly worse than anyone expected.
Bulldozer's general performance has been widely covered,
however. Our goal here is to drill into why the CPU performs the
way it does rather than covering it in a wide range of real
world scenarios.

HTML5: Who wins and who loses?

HTML5 is an umbrella term that is often used to include HTML5
itself, plus scores of enhancements to programming and media
control capabilities, but the technical changes are just the
beginning of HTML5's impact.

Is your Android device hacker friendly?

Happy 10th birthday, iPod: 5 lousy reasons why automakers cling
to the 30-year-old CD

Automakers still have a litany of dog-ate-my-homework reasons of
why it's so hard to find MP3 hooks in your car. Good news: We're
almost at the tipping point for USB jacks.

What would it feel like to live in the cloud?

If cloud computing, social networking, and web apps continue
on their current trajectory, it is not too outlandish to
suppose that at some point in the future, Facebook (or Google,
or Microsoft) will be your sole online repository. Similar
to how Windows 8 lets you log in with your cloud-based Live
ID, there will come a time when you will be able to access
any cloud-connected device or service using a single name
and password.

Inside California's star power fusion facility

At the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory, in California, scientists are using 192
lasers and 500 trillion watts of power in an attempt to fuse
hydrogen, to create miniature stars.

How to use Tor, and is it actually safe and anonymous?

Up there with invisibility, teleportation, and being able to
cancel mid-season TV breaks, x-ray vision is one of the most
sought after superpowers -- and now MIT, with the hope of
aiding soldiers engaged in urban warfare, have created a
radar array that can see through 8-inch concrete walls.
