iPhone 3GS supplies tightening up ahead of discontinuation?

We all know this has to happen someday, now 9to5Mac reports that the supplies of iPhone 3GS are tightening up at retailers around the world and iPhone 3GS is disappearing from stock databases of major international carriers.

According to several sources in different countries, stock of Apple's iPhone 3GS is quickly tightening with hardly – or even any – shipments coming through to certain regions. In addition, according to a source at one popular international carrier, the iPhone 3GS has disappeared from the stock database.

The site has heard from its ‘reliable’ sources at major iPhone 3GS offering European carriers that stock of iPhone 3GS is low and very little stock is expected for the next few weeks. Another source in the US has also said the same about this iPhone of older generation. One more source termed as ‘accurate source’ with its hand in Apple’s global channel for shipping operations reports that the shipments of iPhone 3GS are rapidly decreasing and there is a little amount of iPhone 3GS units remaining in the channel for shipments.

This usually happens when Apple has to discontinue any particular device or refresh it with bumped up specs. It did the same with the Mac line up in the last few months when it had to upgrade the Macs.

It has been reported several times that Apple might release a cheaper iPhone or a cheaper version of iPhone 4 to replace iPhone 3GS alongside its front line iPhone 5 device, that is reported to get unveiled in September.
