LOS ANGELES -- California's fierce North versus South rivalry may soon be giving way to a battle between West and East -- at least according to a panel of Golden State experts at a Monday evening discussion entitled, "L.A. vs. San Francisco: Who Runs California?"

The Zocalo Public Square event at the Grand Avenue MOCA was moderated by NBC Los Angeles anchor Conan Nolan and featured geography professor Dr. Gray Brechin, LA Observed editor Kevin Roderick, Silicon Valley expert Margaret O'Mara and Hollywood's "Master of Disaster" crisis specialist Allan Mayer in a lively (and often wistful) debate about who rules the Golden State.
