Trusteer Report: Trojan Defeats Banking Security

Securing a financial site with simple username and password
authentication isn't such a great idea, as any hacker or
keylogger that captures your credentials gains full access
to the account. Many banks and financial sites have begun
adding a second layer of authentication, texting a code to
your phone that you use to complete the login. Researchers
at Trusteer have discovered that even this two-factor
authentication system isn't perfect.

phishing protection and spam filtering aren't very accurate.
These ups and downs average out to a good product, but you
can do better.

Nightmare

You've heard--and perhaps lived--this security nightmare
before: A technologically trepidatious parent gets a
computer only to have it menaced by malware. In the best-
case scenario, it's a technical headache; for the less
fortunate, however, an infected computer can mean lost
credit card numbers and a newfound sense of powerlessness.
But it doesn't have to be that way.
